Benchmarks
The levels Canada requires
Official levels (CLB in English, NCLC in French) are calculated from a recognised test. As a benchmark, CLB/NCLC 7 generally corresponds to a B2 level:
- Francophone Mobility
- CLB 5 in French speaking and listening
- Express Entry (skilled workers)
- CLB/NCLC 7 in all four skills
- Post-graduation permit (university)
- CLB/NCLC 7 in all four skills
This test assesses grammar, vocabulary and reading. Official tests also assess listening, speaking and writing: your result is a benchmark, not an official level.
