Working in China

Everything starts with the Chinese employer: they obtain the work authorisation, then you apply for the Z visa.

Step by step

The main steps

  1. 1

    The employer applies

The employer in China applies online; once approved, the foreigner work permit notification is issued.

  2. 2

You apply for the Z visa

At the Yaoundé visa centre, with the notification, the employment contract, the employer's business registration and a medical certificate less than 6 months old.

  3. 3

    On arrival in China

Collect the work permit within the time limit set by the city, and apply for the residence permit within 30 days.

Requirements

Who can work in China?

Basic requirements: at least 18, in good health, no criminal record, hired by an employer in China and qualified for the job.

Category A: top talent
Scientists, experts, international entrepreneurs or candidates with enough points (at least 85); no age or degree requirement.
Category B: professionals
At least a bachelor's degree, more than 2 years of relevant experience and under 60.
Category C: others
Positions meeting labour market needs, in limited numbers.
Documents to prepare
Criminal record less than 6 months old, legalised by the Chinese embassy; highest degree verified; medical certificate less than 6 months old.

Categories A, B and C and the points system come from national rules, as published by the cities of Shenzhen and Shanghai.

Be careful

Fake job offers

A real offer comes from an identifiable employer, who applies for the work authorisation themselves. Never pay to get a job or a visa.
