Working in Canada

There are two main families of work permits. Here is how to tell them apart and which may apply to you.

Two families

Employer-specific or open permit

Employer-specific permit
You work for a specific employer, under the conditions of your permit. You need a job offer and, in most cases, a labour market impact assessment (LMIA) obtained by the employer, unless exempt, such as Francophone Mobility.
Open permit
You can work for almost any employer. It is reserved for specific situations: for example the post-graduation permit after studying in Canada, or some spouses.
Official fees
Work permit (with a supplement for an open permit) and biometrics, paid to the Government of Canada. Current amounts given in your quote.

For French speakers

Francophone Mobility, a pathway to know

If you speak French, an employer outside Quebec can hire you without a labour market impact assessment. The required level is CLB 5 in speaking and listening.

Be careful

Fake job offers

Job offer scams for Canada are common. A real offer comes from an identifiable employer, and a promise of a visa for a fee should alert you. The Government of Canada explains how to spot these frauds.
